Position: Assistant Professor in Urban Education at Loyola University Maryland

The Department of Teacher Education at Loyola University Maryland has an assistant professor position open.

Duties of the Position:
Teach undergraduate and graduate education courses (3/3 load); Collaborate with City Schools and other district and community partners in urban education; Advise undergraduate and graduate students; Collaborate with Center for Innovation in Urban Education in seeking external funding; Collaborate with K-12 school personnel and Loyola University Maryland faculty; Engage in an active program of scholarship; Engage in departmental, university, and community service.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in urban education with specialization in one or more of the following: social contexts of learning; language, culture and literacy; early elementary education; social-cultural foundations of teaching and learning, and/or learning environments.

Must demonstrate instructional capacity in one or more topics in urban education: human development and learning in urban contexts; language and culture, early childhood literacy development, social emotional development in diverse setting, family and community engagement, identity and achievement.

Documented evidence of scholarly potential and/or production; Knowledge of curricular initiatives and programs to boost achievement in urban contexts; Knowledge of national trends in social-emotional development, developmentally appropriate instruction and early elementary education; Minimum three year classroom teaching experience (preference will be given to teaching experiences in an urban context); Ability to teach courses in a variety of areas of education (social foundations of education, urban education, action research, science education); Commitment to improving lives of children and families through research, community engagement and practice in urban education; Familiarity with Maryland certification requirements and standards related to the Common Core; Demonstrated ability for productive engagement in urban communities; Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching and teamwork; Possess commitment to the Jesuit mission in higher education.

Desired Qualifications:
College level teaching experience; Experience in grant writing related to teaching and learning in urban contexts, teacher education, and/or urban education; Experience coordinating elementary education programs in urban schools and communities; Possess effective leadership skills.
