The UW College of Education celebrates 50 years of continuous NCATE accreditation and is recognized as a pioneer in school-university partnerships and educational renewal.  It is home to 60 faculty distributed among Departments of Educational Studies, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Professional Studies, and Secondary Education with a growing array of off-campus and on-line instruction.  The College of Education is strongly committed to attracting a diverse pool of faculty where a wide variety of cultural experiences and competencies are valued.  Along with more than 50 years of NCATE accreditation, the Wyoming School-University Partnership celebrates a 30-year history as a founding member of the National Network for Educational Renewal. The College of Education sponsors multiple initiatives to promote democracy and diversity in education such as international experiences for students and faculty to Kenya, New Zealand, China, Russia and Costa Rica.  Additionally, the Shepard Symposium on Social Justice and the Martin Luther King – Days of Dialogue are two university wide endowed conferences where diversity and social justice are the focus.

The Department of Educational Studies at the University of Wyoming is committed to providing the foundations of knowledge in human development, schooling and education, teaching and learning, and assessment in order to foster democracy and honor diversity. We seek to foster emerging change agents’ reflective practice that would allow and help them to apply and further these beliefs, knowledge, and skills in a variety of school contexts while raising awareness of social justice.

The department is committed to helping develop future teachers who can recognize inequities in public school settings and use their increasing professional competence and opportunities to address these inequalities.  We are also committed to helping future teachers from all programs and content areas to acquire a repertoire of instructional strategies and practices that promote citizenship education and civic involvement.

We are searching for a faculty member who shares in our vision and the promise to support public education, and who can partner with us as we build on the current strengths and accomplishments within the department.

In this search, the department seeks a promising and innovative scholar who is firmly and actively committed to promoting diversity and social justice through scholarship, teaching, and service at public schools, universities, and community settings. Candidates with an extensive experience working with diverse populations, multicultural/multilingual students and families and who can provide bold, imaginative, and collaborative leadership to our faculty, students, and the local, state, and national communities that we serve are especially desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in educational foundations both on-campus and through distance delivery.
  • Establish and/or continue a productive research agenda.
  • Advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide outreach and professional development to educators throughout the state.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in curriculum and instruction or closely related field (ABDs are encouraged to apply).
  • Evidence of effective instruction during three or more years, teaching in PreK-12 classrooms or closely related areas.
  • Evidence of strong expertise in teacher preparation (e.g., effective lesson plans, classroom management, and practicum) and educational assessment
  • An active research agenda

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Strong interest/experience in/with multicultural/multilingual student populations, and cross-cultural teaching experiences
  • Teaching experience in diverse school settings
  • Experience with, and scholarship interests in diversity/multicultural education/social justice teacher education
  • A record of successful teaching in higher education
  • A record of excellence in research and publication
  • Experience in international and distance education
  • Ability to speak more than one language
  • Experience with professional development sites.
